Celebrating the recent unveiling of their new facility in Vancouver, Pixar Art Director Jay Shuster is delighted to have found a family so close to the studio’s California home. Unlike other companies apt to parcel-out work overseas in order to rush a project to market, the choice of Vancouver underlines Pixar’s commitment to nurturing strong ties with headquarters and maintaining the highest quality standards, drawing on the Vancouver region’s pool of talented film-production professionals.
Fresh from Lucasfilm Ltd. and his work on the Star Wars prequel film trilogy, Jay joined Pixar in 2002 as a Sketch Artist. His background in industrial design and passion for all things mechanical has helped him create fun and fresh characters for films including Cars and Oscar-winners WALL-E and Toy Story 3.
As Art Director on Pixar’s critically acclaimed Cars 2, his creative leadership philosophy focused on staying fresh through a unique approach and process. Jay will reveal the Pixar process through his personal experiences on the four films he has contributed to over the past nine years.
Distinguished Practice Professor of Planning at the University of British Columbia, founding principal of Beasley and Associates and former Director of Planning for the City of Vancouver, Larry Beasley’s 30 years of service has made him a global leader in the field of city planning and key figure in the development of Vancouver’s urban landscape.
As a champion of the New Urbanism, Mr. Beasley’s work has dramatically reshaped Vancouver's inner city and contributed to the revitalization of several disadvantaged neighbourhoods. Today, he advises the private sector and governments around the world through his work as Chair of the National Advisory Committee on Planning, Design and Realty in Canada, Chief Advisor on Urban Design for the City of Dallas in the United States, member of the International Economic Development Advisory Board of Rotterdam in The Netherlands, and Special Advisor on City Planning to the government of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.
Mr. Beasley has studied architecture and has degrees in geography and political science (B.A.) and planning (M.A.) from Simon Fraser University. In 2004, Mr. Beasley became a Member of the Order of Canada.
